Camera in iOS 27 to feature Siri mode with enhanced Visual Intelligence, per report

Apple is saving its big Siri upgrade for iOS 27’s reveal in June, and it sounds like one of the biggest iPhone apps will benefit. A new report details Siri features coming to the Camera, better Visual Intelligence features, and more.

Siri mode coming to the Camera app in iOS 27

Mark Gurman at Bloomberg reports that Apple is developing a new Siri Camera Mode that will debut as part of iOS 27.

Apple Inc. is planning to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into the iPhone’s camera app, adding a new Siri mode alongside the standard photo and video options in its upcoming iOS 27 operating system.

Gurman elaborates by explaining that Apple plans to “move its Visual Intelligence feature — currently tied to the Camera Control button — into the camera app itself” in an effort to make the AI feature more discoverable.

Visual Intelligence today can also be accessed via Control Center.

Apple added this capability first for iPhones with Apple Intelligence that lacked a Camera Control button. Visual Intelligence can also be tied to the Lock Screen or Action button, but it’s notably absent from the Camera app in iOS 26.

Gurman describes Siri mode as an enhanced version of Visual Intelligence. The feature today connects to ChatGPT and Google Image Search.

He reports that Apple is “redesigning the experience with a new shutter button styled after the Apple Intelligence logo” in iOS 27.

The Camera Control shortcut for accessing Visual Intelligence will also remain, but Camera app integration will showcase the feature to more users.

Visual Intelligence feature will include an upgrade

The report adds that Siri mode will add to existing Visual Intelligence features.

For example, iOS 27 will include “the ability to scan a nutrition label on food packaging to log dietary information” or add contact details by scanning information. Read the newest Bloomberg report in full here.

Today’s new details follow Gurman’s report yesterday about Apple planning three new AI-related features inside the Photos app.

Apple will upgrade Siri across the system, including with a standalone app and a persistent chatbot-like experience. Siri may also be able to parse multiple actions from a single command.

Earlier this year, Apple signed a deal with Google to use Gemini models to help power personal Siri features and upcoming Apple Intelligence features.

Apple will unveil iOS 27 with the new Siri on Monday, June 8. That’s when Apple kicks off WWDC, its annual developer conference at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
